RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". Simply put, it's a way for sites to share lists of their current articles and headlines to display on other sites or to end-users. If you've been to a "portal" site that provides news or headline summaries from other sources, you've seen RSS in action. By subscribing to an RSS feed, you're automatically notified whenever new content that's of interest to you is posted.
To "subscribe" to an RSS feed, you'll need to install RSS news reader software on your computer or use the "Live Bookmarking" feature of your browser. There are also several sites that will aggregate RSS feeds for you into a custom page with exactly the news you want. Once you've subscribed, the RSS reader periodically checks the feed to see if any new content has been posted. The reader then retrieves any new items added to the feed. Search your favorite search engine for "RSS aggregator" or "RSS syndication" for more information and links to download free aggregators.
